Ah, the British weather… alas no matter what time of year you decide to marry, you can never guarantee sunshine or be absolutely certain it won’t rain. The key here is to be prepared for all eventualities and to have a ‘wet weather plan’, even if you’re marrying in July. And, of course, try not to mind too much. When the big day arrives, you’ll be having such a wonderful time, you won’t care about the weather. Let’s take a look at options for rainy weddings at Curradine Barns, from photo ideas to the best way to use this versatile venue.

Be Prepared

First things first, work with our Events Team to plan every element of your day. If you are marrying in the autumn or winter months, you should realistically envisage spending the majority of the day indoors, perhaps spilling out into the Courtyard for afternoon welcome drinks if the sun shines.

During the spring or summer, it’s a lovely idea to marry in the Garden Gazebo, enjoy the gardens for games and drinks and linger in the Courtyard. While we encourage you to plan your outdoor celebration, you can also relax in the knowledge that if the weather isn’t as kind as it might be, we can easily set up the beautiful Granary Barn for your ceremony, after which you can enjoy welcome drinks in the bar. The beauty of Curradine Barns is that it is the perfect venue for weddings throughout the year and, as it’s exclusively yours, all the spaces are available just for you!

Always Accessorise

Work on the basis that it’s far better to buy umbrellas you never use than not to have any at all! If you plan to be outside, a few pretty umbrellas might be all you need in the event of a light shower… and they look lovely in photographs. Equally, it’s a good idea to prepare for cooler temperatures, providing guests with throws or shawls to put over their knees or around their shoulders during your ceremony or welcome drinks. These accessories can make the difference between staying outside and going indoors.

When it comes to your wedding outfit, accessorise for an outdoor ceremony. This might mean you choose a pretty wrap or jacket. The last thing you want is to feel chilly while you’re saying your vows!

Plan the Pictures

Outdoor photographs are always popular at Curradine Barns, no matter what time of year you plan to get married. Even if you tie the knot in the midst of winter, you might like to have some photos of the two of you in the beautiful gardens and countryside.

Once again, be prepared by having some wedding umbrellas to hand, perhaps in a fabulous shade to add some colour to your day? You might even decide to buy some wellies for a fun photo in the great outdoors. Plan carefully, making sure you have just the right number. If you want to have an outdoor shot of the entire bridal party, for example, it’s a good idea to ensure everyone has their own umbrella. Always chat to your photographer before the wedding about the photographs you would like to achieve. A great wedding photographer will offer advice and useful tips.

We hope you never need them, but hopefully these ideas will help you plan the perfect rainy wedding at Curradine Barns!
