Sarah and Andrew’s elegant vintage wedding with a personal touch

Fun, fabulous food and informality were the key ingredients for this most special day.

The Venue

The moment they drove through the gates to Curradine, Sarah and Andrew knew it was the perfect venue for their wedding. ‘It was secluded and intimate without being too small’ says Sarah. ‘We loved how all the barns connected, and the staff made us feel so special. The chocolate brownies were also the best I have EVER tasted!’

Wedding Style

A vintage theme with colours of peach and lilac was a great choice for Curradine and Sarah and Andrew looked to add personalised touches wherever possible. Decorations included suspended pom poms, a vintage suitcase, photo albums and handmade signs. Making many of these items themselves proved time consuming and hard work but was worth the effort. ‘It really gave us the opportunity to make our wedding personal’ says Sarah.

All Dressed Up

Sarah wore ‘Marnie’ by Watters, a beautiful A-line gown with plunging V-neck and lace motifs. After trying on a couple of dresses by the same designer, she was shown her dress and instantly fell in love. ‘I was torn between a romantic and more risqué style, and this was both’ explains Sarah. ‘As soon as I tried it on, there was no going back!’ A vintage headpiece with ivory beads complemented the style of the day, and Sarah wore ivory T-bar shoes by Jenny Packham. For her ‘something borrowed’ Sarah wore a ring from her mother. ‘I also wore a special bracelet that was a present from my family’ says Sarah. ‘It has a pendant holding some of my father’s ashes. I loved having a piece of him with me on the day’.

As for the groom, Andy wore a bright blue suit tailored to fit. In keeping with the pretty colour scheme, he and his ushers wore purple ties and peach buttonholes, with some stripy socks to add a little fun!

The bridesmaids wore peach dresses by ASOS, and each bridesmaid had her dress altered to suit her chosen style. Purple posies and gold shoes completed the look.

Beautiful Blooms

The peach and lilac colour scheme was introduced in to the flowers through roses, gypsophila, peonies, lilac and foliage. In keeping with the vintage style, bouquets were given that ‘just picked’ look with stems wrapped in hessian. Gypsophila adorned the barns, keeping the look simple without overpowering with colour, and table centres featured a log slice with votives and gypsophila.

The Big Day

For their civil ceremony, Sarah and Andrew adorned the barn with white lanterns hanging from the beans, and ‘just married’ bunting.

Welcome drinks were held in the bar area, with guests treated to raspberry elderflower cocktails and beer drums, while they found their names on the stunning seating plan arranged on a large vintage mirror. When it came to the wedding breakfast, a Scotch egg starter with pancetta was followed by rump of lamb and the renowned chocolate brownie. ‘We thought long and hard about the food and realised how difficult it is to please all your guests’ explains Sarah. ‘In the end, we decided to choose our favourites instead, and we loved it. The food was truly amazing!’

Cake, Glorious Cake

As an Aston Villa fan, Sarah was delighted with the elegant take on a themed cake, which featured a blue tier and ombre claret sugar flowers. The three-tiered cake was adorned with a gold ‘LOVE’ topper. Each tier was a different flavour – chocolate, vanilla and lemon drizzle with white chocolate ganache filling. Delicious!

Time to Celebrate

As day turned to evening, guests enjoyed wood fired pizza alongside a popcorn machine and sweet table. Sarah also organised a ‘crisp table’ featuring baskets filled with their favourite childhood crisps!

With a DJ to get the party started, for their first dance the newlyweds chose ‘The First, The Last, My Everything’ by Barry White. While not huge Barry White fans, the song held meaning. ‘When we first met in 2007, we were living in a ski resort in the French Alps. Andy called me one night and sang that song to me’ laughs Sarah. ‘Little did he know, he was on loudspeaker and I wasn’t the only person listening!’

Sarah’s Top Tip

‘Enjoy your planning, prioritise the important things and made decisions for you as a couple – not just to please your family and guests.’
